| Fazit: 20% weniger Bustakt scheinen bei Systemen mit Backside-Cache kaum ins Gewicht zu fallen. In unserern Beispielen konnten wir nur Einbussen von weniger als 1% feststellen.
| Es gibt aber auch hier Ausnahmen: VirtualPC (mit Win95) braucht viel RAM und greift daher oft jene Speicherbereiche (RAM) zu, die nur mit Busgeschwindigkeit betrieben werden (ausserhalb des Caches - rund 4% Leistungseinbusse bei 40 statt 50 MHz Bus). Rechner mit einem auf der Hauptplatine angebrachten Grafiksystem takten dieses mit Busgeschwindigkeit, was zu langsamerer Bildschirmausgabe bei niedriger Busgeschwindigkeit führt (Abhilfe: PCI-Grafikkarte installieren).
Round up: Because of the fast operating backside cache a 20% slower bus speed doesn't seem to influence the systems performance. We could only measure performance disadvantages of less than 1%.
| Of course there are exceptions: VirtualPC (running Win95) needs often to access memory outside the cache, this RAM is clocked at bus speed - thus the system worked around 4% slower in our tests. In machines where the graphics system is located on the motherboard the graphics chip is clocked at bus speed - this leads to slow graphics output when bus speed is low (workaround: install a PCI graphics accelerator).
