| Apple iPad: Der seit einigen Jahren von vielen heiss erwartete Apple Tablet Computer ist da. Er heisst iPad und sieht aus wie ein grosser iPod touch oder ein iPhone mit 9.7" MultiTouch Screen (1024x768, 132 dpi, TFT mit LED-Hintergrundbeleuchtung). Alle Geräte verfügen über WLAN (802.11n), einige Modelle zusätzlich über UMTS/3G zur Datenübertragung (glücklicherweise ohne SIM-Lock). Als Prozessor kommt ein 1.0 GHz schneller "A4" getaufter ARM aus eigener Produktion zum Einsatz (Apple hat letztes Jahr den Chiphersteller P.A. Semi übernommen). Mit an Bord sind Bluetooth 2.1+ EDR, ein Lage-/Beschleunigungssensor, ein Lichtsensor, Dock-Connector, Mikrofon, Kopfhöreranschluss und Lautsprecher, beim WLAN/UMTS Modell zusätzlich ein Schacht für die SIM-Karte. Die Batterielaufzeit soll bis zu 10 Stunden betragen, im Standby-Modus mehrere Wochen. Abmessungen: 242.8 x 189.7mm, 13.4mm dick, 680 Gramm schwer (730g mit UMTS). Assisted GPS (A-GPS) ist nur mit dem UMTS Modell möglich.

| Apple iPad: Apples long awaited tablet computer is here. It's called iPad, and it looks like a big iPod touch or iPhone with 9.7" MultiTouch screen (1024x768, 132 dpi, TFT with LED backlight). All models come with WLAN (802.11n), some even have UMTS/3G for data transmission (no SIM lock). The iPad is powered by a 1.0 GHz fast "A4" ARM processor, which is made by Apple (the company bought P.A. Semi, a chip maker, last year). More features: Bluetooth 2.1+ EDR, Accelerometer, Ambient light sensor, Dock connector, microphone, headphone jack and built-in speakers, and a SIM card tray in the WLAN/UMTS models. The battery is said to last up to 10 hours, in standby mode several weeks. Specs: 9.56 x 7.47 inches, 0.5 inch thick, weight 1.5 pounds (1.6 pounds with UMTS). Statt dem bisherigen 20" Display kommt im kleinen iMac jetzt ein 21.5" Bildschirm (1920x1200) zum Einsatz, beim grossen Modell wird ein 27" (2560x1440) anstelle des bisherigen 24" LCD Screens verbaut; alle Modelle erhalten zudem eine LED Hintergrundbeleuchtung. Als Prozessoren stehen Core 2 Duo Chips mit 3.06 oder 3.33 GHz zur Verfügung, in der grössten Konfiguration ist es ein vierkerniger Core i5 bzw. Core i7 - die Core i5/i7 takten mit 2.66 bzw. 2.8 GHz, einzelne Kerne können aber kurzfristig je nach Anforderungen und Auslastung auf 3.2 bzw. 3.46 GHz hochgedreht werden. The previously used 20" screen has been strechted to 21.5" (now 1920x1200), the 24" replaced by a 27" display (2560x1440); all screens have LED backlight. The new iMacs are using Core 2 Duo processors clocked at 3.06 or 3.33 GHz, in the top configuration it uses Core i5 or Core i7 CPUs - the Core i5/i7, both QuadCore chips, are clocked at 2.66 or 2.8 GHz, but each core can be turbo-boosted to 3.2 or 3.46 GHz, depending on current load and requirements. They're tagged i7 870 (US$ 562, 2.93 GHz) and i7 860 (US$ 284, 2.8 GHz), plus there's a new Core i5 750 chip (US$ 196, 2.6 GHz). These are stripped-down versions of the i7 900 series: Instead of three there're only two memory channels available, and the i5 also misses Intels HyperThreading technology. | Apple überarbeitet MacBook-Familie: An der World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC) hat Apple neben dem kommenden iPhone "3G S" weitere mobile Hardware gezeigt: Das bisherige 13" MacBook bekommt eine FireWire 800 Schnittstelle sowie einen SD-Card Slot und wird zum MacBook "Pro" umgetauft. Das 15" MacBook Pro bekommt einen wie beim 17" Gerät fix verbauten Lithium-Polymer Akku, wodurch sich die Laufzeit ab Batterie auf sieben Stunden erhöhen soll. Auch hier gibt es neu einen SD-Card Slot, allerdings auf Kosten des bisherigen ExpressCard-Steckplatzes. Der 15" Laptop kommt weiterhin mit zwei Grafikprozessoren (der Nvidia 9400M ist im Chipsatz integriert), es gibt nun aber auch eine Rechnervariante, die auf den starken zusätzlichen Grafikprozessor 9600M GT verzichtet. | Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" kommt im September: Unter der Haube soll sich viel getan haben, äusserlich ist dem kommenden Mac-Betriebssystem 10.6 nicht viel neues anzusehen: der Finder wurde komplett in "Cocoa" neu codiert (bisher war er in der vom klassischen Mac OS übernommenen "Carbon" API geschrieben), die Installation setzt einen Intel-Mac voraus und soll nur noch halb so lange dauern und halb so viel Plattenplatz verbrauchen wie die von 10.5 "Leopard"; alle wesentlichen OS-Teile sind jetzt in 64bit Code vorhanden. Das Adressbuch, Mail und iCal sind zu Microsofts Exchange Server (nur Version 2007) sowie ActiveSync kompatibel. Die neue "Grand Central" Technik soll die anfallende Rechenlast auf alle verfügbaren Prozessorkerne verteilen, und "OpenCL" bindet die mächtigen 3D-Prozessoren ebenfalls in die Datenverarbeitung ein. | Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" ships in September: Under the hood a lot has changed in the upcoming Mac OS X 10.6, on the surface most things remain as we know them today: the Finder has been completely rewritten in "Cocoa" (todays Finder is written in the "Carbon" API taken from the Classic Mac OS), the installation requires an Intel-Mac and is said to take only half the time and half the space of the installation of 10.5 "Leopard"; all major OS parts are available in 64bit code. The Adressbook, Mail and iCal are compatible to Microsofts Exchange Server (version 2007) and ActiveSync. The new "Grand Central" technology divides the CPU load on all available processor cores, and "OpenCL" includes the powerful 3D graphics processors when it comes to heavy data crunching. Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" will ship this September, before Microsofts Windows 7 will become available, and it will cost US$ 129; for 10.5 "Leopard" users the upgrade will sell for US$ 29; European pricing is not known at the moment.

| iPhone 3G S: An der World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC) hat Apple das nächste iPhone vorgestellt, das ab dem 19. Juni erhältlich sein soll: Im Vergleich zum iPhone 3G soll das "3G S" Daten mit bis zu doppelter Geschwindigkeit übertragen können (HSDPA, 7.2 MBit/s). Die neue Kamera liefert Bilder in einer Auflösung von 3 MegaPixel, verfügt über einen Autofokus und kann Videos in VGA-Auflösung mit 30 Bildern pro Sekunde aufzeichnen - die Videos lassen sich noch auf dem Handy schneiden und können dann auf youtube oder Mobile Me gepostet bzw. als Email oder MMS verschickt werden. Die Kamera befindet sich allerdings immer noch auf der Rückseite und macht somit Videotelefonie nach wie vor unmöglich. Das "3G S" verfügt zusätzlich über einen digitalen Kompass und eine Sprachsteuerung (per eingebautem Mikrofon oder Headset). Mit 16GB Speicher kostet das neue, in schwarz oder weiss erhältliche iPhone US$ 199, mit 32GB US$ 299 (Preise für AT&T Kunden in den USA); das bisherige 3G mit 8GB Memory, nur in schwarz erhältlich, gibt es für US$ 99 zu kaufen.

| iPhone 3G S: At the World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC) Apple has introduced its next iPhone, which will hit the stores on June 19th: Compared to the current iPhone 3G the new "3G S" is said to tranfer data at up to twice the speed (HSDPA, 7.2 MBit/s). The new camera takes pictures at a resolution of 3 megapixel, features an autofocus and can record videos in VGA resolution at up to 30 frames per second - the films can be cut on the mobile phone and then uploaded to youtube or Mobile Me or sent via Email or MMS. However, the camera is still located on the backside of the phone, making video calls impossible. The "3G S" also sports a digital compass and voice control (using the built-in microphone or a headset). With 16GB memory the new black or white iPhone 3G S costs US$ 199, with 32GB US$ 299 (pricing for AT&T customers in the USA); the current iPhone 3G (8GB Memory, black) will be sold for US$ 99.

| Apple überarbeitet Xserve: Über ein Jahr nach dem letzten Update bringt Apple nun neue Xserve Modelle auf den Markt, die bis zu doppelt so schnell arbeiten sollen. Für diesen Geschwindigkeitszuwachs gibt es mehrere Gründe: Intels "Nehalem" Xeon 5500 Prozessoren können dank HyperThreading gleichzeitig an mehr parallelen Aufgaben arbeiten als der Vorgänger (Xeon 5400 "Harpertown"), zudem stehen jeder CPU drei Speicherkanäle zur Verfügung (FSB-1066), und als Arbeitsspeicher kommt statt DDR2 jetzt DDR3 SD-RAM zum Einsatz. Nehalems "Turbo Boost" Funktion erlaubt je nach aktueller Auslastung das kurzfristige Übertakten eines Prozessors (z.B. von 2.93 auf 3.33 GHz). | Apple aktualisiert iMac, Mac mini und Mac Pro: Apple hat den iMac sowie den Mac mini leicht aufgewertet, wesentliche Änderungen findet man bei der Grösse von Arbeitsspeicher und Festplatte, sowie bei den verbauten neuen NVIDIA Grafikprozessoren. Sämtliche iMac und Mac mini Konfigurationen sind ab sofort lieferbar.
Beim Mac Pro kommt -- einmal mehr als "Apple first" -- Intels neue Xeon "Nehalem" Prozessorgeneration zum Einsatz, deren offizielle Markteinführung eigentlich erst auf ende Monat angesetzt war. Diese 0.045µm CPUs sind echte QuadCore Chips, keine Verkuppelung zweier DualCore Prozessoren zu einem Modul wie früher. Dementsprechend steht das 8 MB grosse L3 Cache auch allen vier Kernen einer CPU zur Verfügung ("fully shared"). Das vom Pentium 4 bekannte "HyperThreading" ist nun ebenfalls wieder verfügbar: Ein Prozessor gaukelt dabei dem Betriebssystem vor, dass es sich bei ihm um zwei CPUs handle, was unter dem Strich zu einer besseren Auslastung der einzelnen Prozessorkomponenten führt (in der acht-kernigen Konfiguration "sieht" das Betriebssystem also 16 CPU Kerne). The Mac Pro gets -- once more as an "Apple first" -- Intels new Xeon "Nehalem" processor generation, which will be officially introduced by the end of the month only. These 0.045µm CPUs are real QuadCore chips, not a combination of two DualCore Dies like in previous Xeons. Thus, the 8 MB L3 cache are available to all four cores of a CPU ("fully shared"). | Info on the fixed battery in Apples new 17" MacBook Pro: Several sources in the internet comfirm that replacing the battery of Apples new 17" MacBook Pro will cost US$ 179, once it loses capacity. Apple claims the new laptop will run up to eight hours on battery, but this could only be achieved by connecting the battery directly to the motherboard, without pins, cables, levers, hooks etc. and this means the user cannot remove/replace the battery himself anymore. An der Macworld Expo in San Francisco hat Apples Marketing-Chef Phil Schiller das neue iLife '09 vorgestellt: iPhoto kann jetzt Fotos auch anhand von Personen sortieren (nicht perfekte aber "incredibly good" Gesichtserkennung), oder anhand der GPS-Daten in den Bildern (sofern vorhanden) auf einer Landkarte (Google Maps) präsentieren. Auch iMovie, GarageBand und iWeb haben einige neue Funktionen spendiert bekommen.
Das Büropaket iWork '09, bestehend aus Keynote, Pages und Numbers, wurde aufgebohrt. Keynote Präsentationen können beispielsweise auch mit einer neuen Fernbedienungs-Anwendung direkt über das iPhone gesteuert werden. Apple hat ausserdem iWork.com angekündigt, eine kostenpflichtige Online Plattform zum Austauschen, Bearbeiten und Korrigieren von Dokumenten (aktuell in kostenloser Beta-Phase). iLife '09 und iWork '09 kommen beide gegen ende Januar für je US$/EUR 79 (Single User) bzw. US$/EUR 99 (Family Pack) in den Handel, können aber auch gleich im "Mac Box Set" (Mac OS X Leopard + iLife '09 + iWork '09) für US$/EUR 169 gekauft werden. Gleiches gilt für den DVI Anschluss, er wurde wie bei den beiden kleineren Laptops durch einen Mini DisplayPort ersetzt. Analog zum 15.4" Modell sind auch im 17er zwei Grafikprozessoren vorhanden, die je nach aktuellen Anforderungen alternativ in Betrieb gehen (stromsparend aber leistungsschwach, oder viel Power bei hohem Strombedarf). Eine spezielle Änderung betrifft die Batterie: sie soll bis zu acht Stunden durchhalten, lässt sich aber nicht vom Anwender aus dem Rechner entfernen/tauschen. At the Macworld Expo in San Francisco, Apples Chief of Marketing Phil Schiller has demoed the new iLife '09: iPhoto can sort photos by peoples faces (not perfect but "incredibly good"), or show photos according to GPS data stored in the files (if available) on Google Maps. iMovie, GarageBand and iWeb have been updated as well.
The office suite iWork '09, consisting of Keynote, Pages and Numbers, has been improved. Keynote presentations for example can now be controlled using a remote-like application on the iPhone. Apple also announced iWork.com, a fee-based online platform for sharing, editing and commenting documents (currently in a free beta phase). iLife '09 and iWork '09 will be both available late January, each for US$/EUR 79 (Single User) or US$/EUR 99 (Family Pack); they can also be bought in a "Mac Box Set" (Mac OS X Leopard + iLife '09 + iWork '09) for US$/EUR 169. Apples iTunes Store currently offers 10 million songs, where as of today 8 million are already DRM-free ("iTunes Plus"). Until end of March all songs will be DRM-free. Starting in April there will be three price categories for songs (US$ 0.69, 0.99 and 1.29, currently every song costs the same US$ 0.99). Identically to the smaller MacBook Pro the new notebook sports two graphics processors, where only one is active at a time depending on current user requirements (power-saving but less-performing, or maximum power using a lot of battery/electricity). A remarkable change has been made to the battery: it's said to last up to eight hours, but it cannot be removed/replaced by the user anymore. The Lithium-Polymer battery is said to last up to 1000 charge cycles or five years. In case of need Apple offers a take-back and recycling program for the battery.

| Neues MacBook und 15" MacBook Pro: Apple hat das Design des kleinen 13.3" MacBook Laptops demjenigen des neuen 15.4" MacBook Pro angeglichen: Beide kommen in einem Aluminiumgehäuse daher (MacBook: bisher nur in schwarzem oder weissem Plastik), welches im Vergleich zu früheren PowerBooks und MacBook Pro's an den Gehäusekanten stärker abflacht. Beide Rechner erhalten ein in einen schwarzen Rahmen gefasstes Display mit verspiegelter Glasfront, optisch ganz an den aktuellen iMac angelehnt. Das 17" MacBook Pro ist weiterhin nur im alten Design erhältlich, welches seit seiner Einführung im Januar 2003 nur marginal verändert worden ist. Das 15.4" MacBook Pro beherbergt nun zwei Grafikprozessoren (Hybrid Grafik: im Chipsatz integrierter NVIDIA GeForce 9400M und separater 9600M GT), zwischen denen hin- und hergeschaltet werden kann, je nachdem ob man gerade stromsparend arbeitet (Akkuleistung bis zu 5 statt 4 Stunden) oder eben viel Saft für die Grafik benötigt. Ein paralleler Betrieb beider GPUs ist nicht vorgesehen. Der beim Pro Modell bisher vorhandene DVI Port zum Anschluss eines externen Monitors ist einem neuen Display Port gewichen, er kommt allerdings -- ebenfalls beim kleinen MacBook -- in der Mini Version daher und erfordert zum Anschluss an einen Bildschirm mit grossem Display Port, DVI oder VGA einen Adapter. Beim MacBook entfällt leider der FireWire Anschluss, der z. B. zum Betrieb vieler Videokameras erforderlich wäre -- immer mehr neue Kameras kommen allerdings mit USB2 Schnittstelle.
Sämtliche externen Anschlüsse sind bei beiden Modellen auf die linke Gehäuseseite gewandert, an der rechten Flanke befindet sich nun die Öffnung des CD/DVD Laufwerks. Das neu aus Glas bestehende Multi-Touchpad kommt jetzt ganz ohne Taste aus (das ganze Pad ist eine klickbare Taste) und bietet damit 40% mehr Fläche für Mehrfinger-Gestik. Die schnellere MacBook Version (2.4 statt 2.0 GHz) erhält nun auch die bisher nur bei den Pro Modellen vorhandene Tastaturbeleuchtung. All external ports have been moved to the left side in both new laptops, while the slot of the CD/DVD drive is now on the right side. The Multi-Touchpad, now made from glass, does not have a button anymore, the whole pad is a clickable button, thus offering 40% more area for multifinger gestures. | Apple "Let's Rock" Media Event: Neben iTunes Version 8 hat Steve Jobs am heutigen Medien Event in San Francisco auch neue iPods vorgestellt: Den iPod classic gibt es nur noch in der dünnen Variante (US$ 249, EUR 239), die jetzt 120 statt wie bisher 80GB Platz bietet (das dicke 160GB Modell entfällt). Der neue iPod nano (4. Gen.) ähnelt wieder seinem Vorgänger der 2. Generation, hat aber ein viel grösseres Display, ein abgerundetes Alu Gehäuse und einen eingebauten Accelerometer (bekannt aus iPod touch und iPhone). Der neue nano kommt in 9 Farben und kostet US$/EUR 149 (8GB) bzw. US$/EUR 199 (16GB). Der neue iPod touch ist dünner als das bisherige Modell, unterstützt Nike+iPod und bekommt einen eingebauten Lautsprecher sowie einen Lautstärkeregler an der Aussenseite. | Apple "Let's Rock" media event: At todays media event in San Francisco, Steve Jobs introduced iTunes version 8 and new iPod models: The iPod classic will continue to exist only in the thin model (US$ 249, EUR 239), which gets a storage upgrade from 80 to 120GB (the thick 160GB model is being discontinued). The new 4th Gen. iPod nano looks similar to the 2nd Gen. nano, but has a bigger display, an oval-ish enclosure, and a built-in accelerometer (known from the iPod touch and iPhone). The new nano comes in 9 different colours and sells for US$/EUR 149 (8GB) or US$/EUR 199 (16GB). The new iPod touch is slimmer than the old model, supports Nike+iPod, and it gets a built-in speaker and volume controls on the outside. The iPod touch models cost US$ 229 or EUR 219 (8GB), US$ 299 or EUR 279 (16GB) and US$ 399 or EUR 379 (32GB). | Intels kommende "Nehalem" Plattform: Am Intel Developer Forum (IDF) hat der Chipgigant den kommenden "Core i7" Prozessor ("Bloomfield") für Highend Desktop Rechner detaillierter vorgestellt: er wird vier Cores auf einem Die unterbringen (aktuelle Intel QuadCore CPUs besitzen zwei DualCore Dies), und er verfügt über einen integrierten Speichercontroller mit drei DDR3 Kanälen, das vom Pentium 4 übernommene und verbesserte Hyper-Threading, sowie eine QPI Schnittstelle (QuickPath-Interconnect).
Der Core i7 soll noch dieses Jahr, möglicherweise ab Oktober, erhältlich werden, in etwa zeitgleich mit dem Nehalem "EP" Xeon ("Gainsfield") für Server mit zwei Prozessoren. Für die erste Hälfte 2009 sind dann "Havendale" und "Lynnfield" (für Midrange Desktop Rechner, mit/ohne integriertem Grafikprozessor), "Auburndale" und "Clarksfield" (für Notebooks, mit/ohne integriertem Grafikprozessor) sowie die acht-kernigen Nehalem "EX" Xeons (für Server mit mehr als zwei Prozessoren) vorgesehen. | Intels oncoming "Nehalem" platform: At the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) the chip giant has detailed its oncoming "Core i7" processor ("Bloomfield") for highend Desktop machines: it will host four cores on a single die (current Intel QuadCore CPUs consist of two DualCore dies), and it will feature an integrated memory controller with three DDR3 channels, an improved Hyper-Threading (known from the Pentium 4 family), as well as a QPI interface (QuickPath-Interconnect).
The Core i7 is said to debut this year, possibly in October, around the same time when Intel will release the Nehalem "EP" Xeon ("Gainsfield") for server with two processors. For H1/2009 the following CPUs are scheduled: "Havendale" and "Lynnfield" (for midrange Desktop machines, with/without integrated graphics processor), "Auburndale" and "Clarksfield" (for notebooks, with/without integrated graphics processor) and the eight-core Nehalem "EX" Xeons (for server with more than two processors). | Intel Centrino 2 "Montevina" Plattform: Bereits letzte Woche hat Intel die Centrino 2 Plattform (Codename "Montevina") vorgestellt. Dabei wurden folgende Elemente aktualisiert: Neue Doppelkern "Penryn" Core 2 Duo Prozessoren mit 2.26 - 3.06 GHz (bisher: 2.1 - 2.8 GHz), 1066 MHz Font Side Bus (bisher: 800 MHz), schnellerer integrierter Grafikchip GMA X4500 für u.a. ruckelfreie BluRay-Wiedergabe (bisher: GMA X3100), schnelleres WLAN (Draft-N Standard, 450 statt wie bisher 300 Mbit/s), optional auch WiMax. Über das ebenfalls beschleunigte Speicherinterface lassen sich neu auch DDR2-800/PC2-6400, DDR3-800/PC3-6400 und DDR3-1066/PC3-8500 Memorymodule ansprechen (bisher: DDR2-667/PC2-5300).
Gerüchten zufolge steht die nächste Überarbeitung von Apples MacBook und MacBook Pro kurz bevor -- anzunehmen ist aber auch, dass Apple wie bisher nur ausgewählte Teile von Intels Baukasten übernimmt; beispielsweise eine Option auf WiMax WLAN könnte daher auch weiterhin fehlen. (Intel) |

Demgegenüber bietet der Intel-Konkurrent auch zwei mit maximal 65 Watt Stromaufnahme eher sparsame Geschwister an: den 1.8 GHz schnellen Phenom X4 9150e sowie den mit 2.0 GHz taktenden X4 9350e. Wie bisher lassen sich die "Black Edition" CPUs von AMD per Software übertakten (Multiplikator vom Grundtakt des Systembusses zum CPU-Takt), Garantie gewährt der Hersteller im Schadensfall dann jedoch - wie bisher - keine mehr. In contrast the other two new processors consume only up to 65 Watts: the 1.8 GHz Phenom X4 9150e and the 2.0 GHz X4 9350e. As before, the "Black Edition" CPUs can be software-overclocked (by modifying the multiplier between the bus base clock and the CPU clock); in case of damage AMD denies - as before - any warrenty. | Was mit OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" kommen wird: Gezeigt hat Steve Jobs an seiner gestrigen Keynote zur kommenden OS X Version 10.6 nichts -- den Namen "Mac" hat Apple bei OS X weggelassen, schliesslich läuft das Betriebssystem ja nicht nur auf Macs sondern auch auf dem iPhone und dem AppleTV. Apple hat aber mittlerweile bekannt gegeben, mit welche Neuerungen Mac User rechnen können: Sichtbare neue Funktionen wird es keine geben, dafür eine ganze Reihe an Verbesserungen unter der Haube: "Snow Leopard" soll Mehrkern-Prozessoren besser auslasten (Technologie mit dem Codenamen "Grand Central"), die mächtige GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) der Grafikkarte(n) bei komplexen Berechnungen mit einbeziehen (Open Computing Language, "OpenCL"), bis zu 16 TB Arbeitsspeicher verwalten, mit "QuickTime X" eine modernere Medienplattform bekommen, und von Haus aus mit Microsoft Exchange 2007 zusammenarbeiten (Mail, iCal, Adressbuch). | What will be new with OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard": During his Keynote yesterday, Steve Jobs didn't tell a lot about the oncoming OS X 10.6 -- the name "Mac" has been dropped, since OS X not only runs on Macs, but also on the iPhone and AppleTV. Apple has now officially announced the following: "Snow Leopard" will not get many new "visible" features, it will optimize support for MultiCore processors (technology called "Grand Central"), it will integrate the powerful GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) of your graphics card(s) for complex number crunching tasks (Open Computing Language, "OpenCL"), support up to 16 TB of memory, get a new media platform with "QuickTime X", and it will get support for Microsofts Exchange 2007 (Mail, iCal, AddressBook). | Neues von der WWDC: An der World Wide Developer Conference in San Francisco hat Steve Jobs erwartungsgemäss die iPhone Firmware 2.0 vorgestellt: Unterstützung von Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, Live Kontakt-Suche, iWork und Microsoft Office Dokument-Support, bessere Handhabung von vielen Emails usw. (Löschen, Verschieben, ...), Möglichkeit zum Abspeichern erhaltener Bilder, ein neuer, wissenschaftlicher Taschenrechner, Parental Controls, mehr unterstützte Sprachen. Für iPhone Benutzer ist das ab anfangs July erhältliche Update kostenlos, iPod touch Besitzer müssen jedoch eine Gebühr von US$ 9.99 bezahlen (vermutlich weil hier keine monatliche Gebühr in Form eines Telco-Abos fällig ist). Eine ganze Reihe von Software Firmen haben ihre iPhone/iPod touch Anwendungen gezeigt -- die dann in 62 Ländern über den iTunes App Store gekauft werden können.
Mit MobileMe ermöglicht Apple auch den Kunden ohne Exchange Server das Pushen von Emails, Kontakten, Terminen und Fotos. Das funktioniert mit Mail, iCal und dem Adressbuch auf dem Mac, und mit Outlook unter Windows. MobileMe ersetzt das bisherige .Mac Angebot von Apple; bisherige .Mac Kunden werden automatisch nach MobileMe übernommen. Die Online Speicherkapazität des Dienstes wird für alle Kunden auf 20GB verdoppelt. Speziell von europäischen Kunden gewünscht wurde die Unterstützung von UMTS ("3G", 3. Generation) anstelle des langsamen, auf GSM basierenden EDGE. Ein 3G iPhone wird ab dem 11. July in 22 Ländern erhältlich sein (später in über 70 Ländern), etwas dünner als das bisherige iPhone, eingepackt in schwarzen oder weissen Plastik, ausgestattet mit Metallknöpfen, längerer Akkuleistung, und GPS (Global Positioning System). Apple hat an die anwesenden Entwickler ausserdem auch eine erste Vorabversion des nächsten Betriebssystems, Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard", abgegeben. Die Entwickler müssen sich allerdings schriftlich dazu verpflichten, vorerst keine Informationen über das neue System zu veröffnetlichen. (Apple) |

A number of software companies have shown their iPhone/iPod touch apps, which then can be bought via iTunes App Store in 62 countries.
With MobileMe Apple brings Push email, contacts, meetings and photos to customers without Exchange server. It works with Mail, iCal and the AddressBook on the Mac, and with Outlook on Windows. MobileMe replaces Apples .Mac platform, existing .Mac customers will be automatically transferred to MobileMe. The online storage space has been doubled to 20GB for all customers. European iPhone customers have long waited for UMTS support ("3G", 3rd generation), replacing the current iPhone's slower, GSM based EDGE. A 3G iPhone will be available starting July 11th (in 22 countries, later in more than 70 countries), a bit thinner than the original iPhone, packed in black or white plastic, with solid metal buttons, longer battery life, and GPS (Global Positioning System). Also, Apple distributed a copy of a pre-release of their next major operating system, Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard". | AMD stellt Mobilplattform "Puma" vor: AMD nutzt die Gunst der Stunde -- Intel hat die Einführung der neuen Mobilplattform "Centrino 2" vom 22. Juni auf den 14. July resp. 5. August verschoben -- und stellt mit "Puma" die erste eigene Plattform speziell für Notebooks vor. Sie besteht aus einem Turion X2 Ultra Prozessor (Codename "Griffin") und dem "M780G" Chipsatz, dessen Grafikteil (Radeon HD 3200) stark genug sein soll, um BluRay Videos abspielen zu können. Der Griffin Prozessor beherbergt zwei Kerne mit je 1MB L2 Cache, und taktet mit 2.0 bis 2.4 GHz. Diese Taktrate kann zwecks Stromeinsparung auf die Hälfte oder auf einen Viertel gesenkt werden (also bis auf 500-600 MHz). Der im Chipsatz integrierte Grafikteil greift auf einen vom Hauptspeicher separierten 128MB DDR2-800 Speicherbaustein zu ("DisplayCache"), was es dem Chipsatz nun ermöglicht den eigentlichen Memorycontroller schlafen zu legen -- dies ist bei bisherigen Chipsets, die auch den Grafikspeicher im RAM anlegen ("shared"), nicht möglich. | AMD introduces Mobile platform "Puma": After Intel has postponed its new "Centrino 2" laptop platform from June 22nd to July 14th and August 5th, AMD has introduced its first notebook specific platform named "Puma". It consists of a Turion X2 Ultra processor (codenamed "Griffin") and a "M780G" chipset, whose graphics processor (Radeon HD 3200) is said to be able to play BluRay videos. The Griffin processor hosts two cores, each having 1MB of L2 cache, and being clocked at 2.0 to 2.4 GHz. To minimize power consumption the clock rate can be reduced to half or a quarter of maximum speed (that is down to 500-600 MHz). The integrated graphics processor accesses a dedicated 128MB DDR2-800 memory chip ("DisplayCache"); this allows the chipset to put the main memory controller to sleep -- in current notebook platforms with integrated graphics the video memory is shared with the main memory, which requires the memory controller to be online as long as a video signal has to be transferred to the display.
