| IBMs POWER6 erreicht 4.7 GHz: Ab nächstem Monat kann der neue POWER6 Prozessor optional anstelle der bisherigen POWER5+ CPU in IBMs p570 Servern bestellt werden. Der neue Chip (0.065µm) besitzt wie sein Vorgänger (0.09µm) zwei Prozessorkerne (DualCore) und erreicht nach IBMs Angaben in etwa die doppelte Performance eines POWER5+ bei gleicher Leistungsaufnahme. Der POWER6 soll mit 3.5, 4.2 und 4.7 GHz Taktrate kommen, 8MB L2 onchip Cache sowie Unterstützung für externes L3 Cache (32MB) bieten, jeder Kern kann parallel zwei Threads abarbeiten. (IBM) |
| IBMs POWER6 reaches 4.7 GHz: Next month the new POWER6 processor can be ordered in IBMs p570 server machines, instead of the well known POWER5+ CPU. The new chip (0.065µm) hosts two cores (DualCore) just like its predecessor (0.09µm), and according to IBM it reaches twice the performance at the same level of power consumption. | Aufgemöbelte MacBooks: Apple hat das MacBook leicht aufgewertet. Der Core 2 Duo Prozessor taktet jetzt 166 MHz höher (2.0 oder 2.16 GHz), ab Werk ist in allen drei Modellen 1GB Arbeitspeicher eingebaut, die Festplattenkapazität ist um 20 bis 40 GB gestiegen, und das eingebaute WLAN entspricht jetzt dem neuesten IEEE 802.11n (Draft-) Standard. Die Preise in US$ bleiben unverändert, sind aber hierzulande durchs Band um EUR 30 gefallen. Entgegen einiger vor der Vorstellung der neuen Macbooks kursierenden Gerüchten besitzen die neuen Laptops aber noch keine LED-beleuchteten Displays.
