(Intel)
Intels x86 moves to 64 bits: Intels workstation/server processor Xeon is now available with a new 3.6 GHz fast 0.09µm core codenamed "Nocona", showing some similarities to the "Prescott" core found in the most recent Pentium 4 CPUs. In contrast to the Pentium 4 the new Nocona is made for Dual machines, and as the first Intel x86 chip it features their new Extended Memory 64 Technology ("EM64T") allowing to address up to 16GB of memory.
14 months ago AMD did the same step when introducing their Athlon 64 and Opteron processors: the existing x86 instruction set was extended with new 64bit instructions ("AMD64"). For AMDs 64bit CPUs there're a few 64bit Linux derivates available; Microsofts 64bit Windows XP is still in beta stage. (Intel)
209 US$ (OEM Preis). (Intel)
More Pentium M processors: Intel has increased the number of Pentium M family members ("Dothan" core, 2MB onchip L2 cache): To the existing models with 1.7, 1.8 and 2.0 GHz clock speed they added the Pentium M 725 1.6 GHz and 715 1.5 GHz. OEM pricing is 241 and 209 US$. (Intel)
Die neuen Modelle nennen sich Celeron 320 (2.4 GHz, 69 US$), 325 (2.53 GHz, 79 US$), 330 (2.66 GHz, 89 US$) und 335 (2.8 GHz, 117 US$). (Intel)
Intel Celeron now at 0.09µm: Intels low end processor Celeron is now available with 0.09µm "Prescott" core. The new models are called Celeron 320 (2.4 GHz, 69 US$), 325 (2.53 GHz, 79 US$), 330 (2.66 GHz, 89 US$) and 335 (2.8 GHz, 117 US$). Compared to the predecessor with "Northwood" core the L2 cache size has been doubled to 256k, the system bus interface now clocks at 133 instead of 100 MHz (533 MHz quad-pumped, previously 400 MHz), and the SSE3 instruction set ("Enhanced MMX") is available. (Intel)
(Intel)
Pentium 4 reaches 3.6 GHz: Intel has introduced new Pentium 4 chipsets. Instead of the Advanced Graphics Port (AGP) they now use PCI Express, they support the new DDR2 memory, and the matching processors come in the new LGA775 box ("Land Grid Array" with 775 pins): Pentium 4 520 (2.8 GHz), 530 (3.0 GHz), 540 (3.2 GHz), 550 (3.4 GHz) and 560 (3.6 GHz). Pricing is the same as for the socket 478 processors at the same speed (up to 3.4 GHz). The processors are still based on the "Prescott" CPU core (0.09µm). (Intel)

Power Macintosh G5 updated: Almost one year after its introduction Apple has beefed up its PowerMac G5 family with a faster pair of CPUs for each model. All machines now feature 400 MHz DDR-SDRAM; the entry level model still lacks the modern PCI-X slots. For better cooling the 2.5 GHz Dual computer got a liquid processor cooling system. Optionally available is the ATI Radeon 9800 XT graphics card with 256MB of graphics memory; according to the technical specification it occupies the AGP and a PCI slot, probably due to its big heatsink (card width).
Due to IBMs problems in making 0.09µm PowerPC 970FX/G5 processors, Apple will not be able to fullfill its promise made last June to move from 2.0 to 3.0 GHz clock speed within one year. According to rumors IBMs problems are also a reason why there won't be a PowerBook G5 any time soon. Also chip giant Intel is having problems manufacturing its 0.09µm Pentium 4/M processors, while AMD hasn't made this move yet and still makes 0.13µm chips.

(Intel)
New Mobile CPUs from Intel: Intels Mobile Pentium 4 is now available as variants 518 (2.8 GHz), 532 (3.06 GHz) and 538 (3.2 GHz). All of them feature HyperThreading, an interface to a 533 MHz Front Side Bus (FSB, 133 MHz quad-pumped) and 1MB of onchip L2 cache ("Prescott" core). In contrast to the Pentium M the Mobile Pentium 4, directly derived from the Desktop Pentium 4 processor, consumes a lot of power, Intel specifies a Thermal Design Power (TDP) of 88 Watts (Pentium M: 21 Watts). The three new chips are manufactured in a 0.09µm process; they feature a new energy management ("Geyserville III" / "Enhanced SpeedStep") that handles more than the previous two states battery / power line mode. OEM pricing for the new Mobile Pentium 4 CPUs: 202, 234 and 294 US$.
Intel also introduced the Celeron M 340 mobile processor (1.5 GHz, 0.13µm), which is based on the Pentium M "Banias" core with half the onchip L2 cache (512k instead of 1MB). OEM price: 134 US$. (Intel)
720 US$, während der Athlon 64 3700+ (Sockel 754) 710 US$ kostet (OEM Preise). (AMD)
AMD Athlon 64 reaches 2.4 GHz: AMDs 64bit desktop processor Athlon 64 "3700+" has reached 2.4 GHz clock speed. Its more powerful brother Athlon 64 FX-53 is running at this speed since middle of March, while the server CPU Opteron is available at 2.4 GHz since mid May (so far only the DUal models, "2xx" family).
AMD also introduced a new socket ("939") with two memory channels. Matching processors are the Athlon 64 3500+ (2.2 GHz) and 3800+ (2.4 GHz) as well as the FX-53 (2.4 GHz). The new socket doesn't require buffered DIMMs anymore, but it's not dual-capable. Up to now a main difference between the Athlon 64 and the Athlon 64 FX was the dual memory channel for the FX; since this difference is no longer, the Athlon 64 now gets only half the L2 cache size (512k vs 1MB) while the FX and the latest previous Athlon 64 models (socket "754") keep their 1MB L2. The new socket 939 also increases the clock speed of the Hypertransport bus from 800 to 1000 MHz. Like AMD also Apple uses the Hypertransport bus architecture in the PowerMac G5 machines, it's running at half the CPU clock speed (up to now that's 800, 900 or 1000 MHz).
Concerning pricing there's news: Previously available Athlon 64 models don't become cheaper, the new chips are simply priced above the old ones: The Athlon 64 FX-53 (Sockel 939) costs 799 US$ (733 US$ for the older socket 940), the Athlon 64 3500+ and 3800+ cost 500 or 720 US$, while the Athlon 64 3700+ (socket 754) sells for 710 US$ (all OEM prices).
